Chapter 1 : Vogh Returns to Ptolus : Part 9

===========================================================
Narrator
———————————————————–
In reply to Vogh (msg # 356):

Hide inside the warehouse?

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
No outside somewhere we can see who all goes in within 30 mins of our time to meet.

===========================================================
Narrator
———————————————————–
In reply to Vogh (msg # 358):

Ok. So you want to be somewhere nearby and you want to get there 30 minutes early?

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
No we will be there an hour early and hide.  We will make sure we are alert to who is going inside 30mins prior.  WE will cast our spells and then enter when it is time.

===========================================================
Narrator
———————————————————–
Twilight approached and passed. The long shadow of the Spire stretched out and disappeared with the sun. Vogh and Talin made it quietly down Able Row. All the buildings were either in the process of being locked up, or already were.

The main doors were locked up on the red warehouse so they made their way around the back where the south door opened into the alleyway which the windows of the partial second story overlooked.

The two bards quickly scaled the wall of one nearby warehouse in the same alley and slinked along the rooftops until they were directly across from the red one they had scoped.

They didn’t have to wait long. Two males, one human and one elf of some kind, were accompanied by a large dog and made their way to the back door of the warehouse. The human looked side to side and unlocked the door. The dog and both men went inside. A few moments passed and the elf poked his head out a second story window with an arrow knocked on his bow. The human nodded up at him and left the door partially open.

As he swept his gaze away from the elf he spotted someone on the roof. Looking directly up at your hiding spot he draws his short sword and points it up at them shouting out:

“Oi! You dere! What ya thin’ ya doin?! Get down ere!!”

OOC: HA! sorry! bad guy rolled a 20 and talin didn’t do good! 😀

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
Vogh casts her spell to look like one of the Pale dogs.  The beginning of the spell had Talin into his casting as well.  When the two came into the light they looked like the two Pale dogs.

Vogh called down to the human.  We were just making sure it wasn’t a trap or something.  She begins to make her way down the building and move over to the man. Vogh motions for her companion to come down as she goes down.

===========================================================
Narrator
———————————————————–
He kept his sword drawn and leveled at the two as they descended. The elf in the window kept his bow trained on them as well.

“Well it ain’t no trap ya dawwgs. Did ya do the deed or didn’t ya?”

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
Vogh spoke first since she was with them a little longer and knew how the one spoke whom she looked like.  Finally down on the ground Vogh moves to the man which hopefully cuts down on the elf’s shot from the window above and says, the pretty little thing barely was able to let out a peep before I slit her throat.

She then stuck out his hand, it should be obvious what he was wanting…. payment.  Vogh wanted the man to let down his guard in case they needed to fight.

===========================================================
Narrator
———————————————————–
“Oi! Good! You be wantin’ ya coin then, eh?” Give it to em elf!

Initiative:

BG Human: 23
BG Elf: 14
Vogh: 12
Talin: 12
Dog: 10

09:00, Today: DM, for the NPC Bad Guys, rolled 14,23 using 1d20+1,1d20+7.  Initiative.
08:59, Today: DM rolled 12,12 using 1d20+3,1d20+7.  Vogh, Talin Initiative.

The human lunges forward short sword slashing at Talin. Talin tries to draw his sword in time to deflect the blow but takes a cut to his side instead (6 damage).

09:19, Today: DM rolled 2 using 1d2.  Vogh = 1. Random attack 😀

The elf pulls and fires at Vogh. She suspected an attack but not this quickly. The arrow stabbed into her right leg (5 damage).

Talin gets his sword clear, finishing the move he started when he was cut. He uses the momentum of the draw to move the human’s sword back into a defensive position and then he reverses and slices down with a yell biting into the surprised man’s arm.

09:24, Today: Secret Roll: DM, on behalf of Talin, rolled 25,10 using 1d20+8,1d8+4.

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
With a fresh arrow in her leg, Vogh takes up a song about courage and valiant heroes to boost her and Talin’s ability to attack. +5 to hit and damage

Vogh then moves to flank the human while also trying to get out of the firing sight of the elf above.  You will pay for your treachery.

Move to flank
Inspire courage

===========================================================
Narrator
———————————————————–
Vogh moved toward the wall and the door to flank the human, but the dog they saw go in comes rushing at her out of the warehouse snapping at her heels but skids by missing her.

The human spurs the dog on: “Oi! Get ‘er Marcus!! He steps away from Vogh, keeping his back to the warehouse as he stabs out at Talin. The bard easily parries the thrust blade.

Another arrow streaked down at them, narrowly missing Vogh again as she dodges the dogs snapping jaws.

Talin, emboldened by Vogh’s inspiration and aided by her movement to flank the man slashed forward. His blade passed behind the man’s defenses and laid him open neck to gut. Immediately all fight left the human as he slumped down in a pool of his own blood.

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
As Talin sliced at the man with his sword, she saw blood fly and the man slump down and out of the fight.  Knowing the dog will continue to fight for its owner, Vogh slashes at it herself.  Sorry Marcus!  She says as her blade cuts deep into it.

23:39, Today: Vogh rolled 20,15 using d20+16,d8+8.  attack dog.

===========================================================
Narrator
———————————————————–
With a yelp the beast goes down without any more noise.

Both Talin and Vogh jerk their head up to see the elf disappear from the window and the sound of running footsteps pounding away.

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
With the elf running away, Vogh doesn’t take up the chase.  Instead she looks down to the man to see if he is still alive and if so she patches him up to stem the bleeding.

21:33, Today: Vogh rolled 24 using 1d20+5.  heal check.

===========================================================
Narrator
———————————————————–
In reply to Vogh (msg # 370):

He’s at -8 hit points and fading fast…

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
Having stemmed the flow of blood from the man by patching up the large gash Talin made on him, Vogh quickly looks over his body to see what information she could find.

He should be stabilized now with my heal check.

Are his nails black?

===========================================================
Narrator
———————————————————–
In reply to Vogh (msg # 372):

The human man was approaching middle age. He wore high quality studded leather armor, reduced in quality due to Talin’s slash. His short sword is also high quality and well sharpened. Inside the door lay a short bow and 20 arrows in a quiver. A gold ring adorns his finger and a small pouch contains only 19 silver.

His fingernails are not painted black, and he looks far to old to be a member of the pale dogs.

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
Vogh asks, Talin help me take the man to the temple.  I think we can get a heal on him so he can recover and we can then begin to ask questions.  Grabbing all the items off of the man and the quiver, bow and arrows, Vogh aids Talin to bring man to get help.

After looking at the silver pieces Vogh said, well clearly they meant to just kill off the Pale dogs after the deed was complete.

===========================================================
Talin
———————————————————–
Talin helped Vogh prop the man up and make their way toward St. Gustav’s temple where Brother Fabitor had told them he worked. It was pretty late, so he held little hope anyone would be there.

“Are you sure it’s a good idea for us to be seen carrying a more than half dead man in the streets whom we actually attacked…?”

Talin let the words hang in the air as he looked around very weary of running into any of the City Watch patrols who were always about.

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
Talin was right, it looked suspicious indeed.  You are right, but the man needs aid.  Where could we bring him at this hour to get help that is near?

===========================================================
Talin
———————————————————–
“I would say that’s the only place. Hopefully the priest will answer and help us. We are researching this attack at his request…”

They kept the man slung between them to share the load. The man grunted with each jolt and by the time they reached the temple he was bleeding again through the wraps.

Talin helped Vogh lay him down right outside and proceeded to mercilessly beat on the door.

His pounding reverberated through the temple, they could hear, but he continued until Brother Fabitor finally opened the door holding a lantern.

“Brother. This man is nearly dead, but he has information about who attacked Phon, and might have even hired the thugs who did attack her. We need you to heal him immediately.”

Talin stepped out of the way to let the priest see the dying man and gestured forward.

Brother Fabitor with a Yes, yes stooped down and immediately laid hands on the man while beginning a prayer incantation.

The thug gasped as he came back among the land of the conscious and living. He looked around and Talin quickly leveled his sword at the man gesturing for him to enter the temple.

“Best we conduct this inquiry inside brother.”

Vogh helped the man up while Talin kept a weary eye out for treachery then shut the door behind them as they entered.

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
Just before closing the door to the temple Vogh gave a good once over to see if they were followed by an elf or anyone else for that matter. Rolled a 14 spot

Closing the door then she went inside with Takin and Brother Fabitor.  Brother is there somewhere we can go with him that will be silent and away from spying eyes?  We have some questioning to do.  Perhaps some spells of yours may help as well.  I hear priests are able to cast a spell that prevents others from lying.

===========================================================
Fabitor
———————————————————–
“Yes. Yes. Uh. Of course. This way.”

He led them back through the church to a single room with a heavy door and no windows. It looked to be a storage room.

The priest closed his eyes and prayed once more. When he finished Fabitor addressed the thug.

“You will be unable to speak a lie in your answers. So do not try.”

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
Once Brother Fabitor was complete with his spell Vogh stepped forward.  I am glad to see we didn’t kill you, are you thankful for that?

Vogh listened to his answer Thelma asked the following questions:

1. What is you name and the name of the elf that was with you earlier at the warehouse on Able Row?

2. Why did you come to the warehouse at that moment? And proceeded to ask me if the task was complete?

3. Who hired you to hire the Pale dogs you hired to kill the female by the name of Phon?

4. Are you supposed to report that you killed the two Pale dogs?  If so to whom?

Vogh looked over at Takin to see if he had any questions and then to Brother Fabitor.

===========================================================
Thug
———————————————————–
To every question he replies the same. “I ain’t gotta say.”

Talin, growing angrier with every flippant response drew his sword and lightly traced the same line alone the man which nearly killed him. Then matching the man’s ignorant phrasing he said, “Ya do gotta say, unless ya wanna me ta open ta up again with no priesty here ta save ya sary skin…”

09:29, Today: DM, on behalf of Talin, rolled 25 using 1d20+15.  Intimidate.

The thug turned as white as before due to blood loss then he started to bubble rapidly.

Elf’s name be Laucio. We came to kill them dogs what we hired to kill that girl. Toridan Cran, he the one what hired us to kill her. We figured to keep all the money and our hands clean too. Yeah. Yeah. We supposed to tell Cran it’s done.

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
When are you supposed to meet with him?

===========================================================
Thug
———————————————————–
“Whenever it be done. Them dogs was supposed to meet us tonight what tell us they kilt her.”

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
Okay. where are you supposed to meet and how will he know?  Are you just going to his house?

The remembering the elf she ask, Where can we find the elf?

===========================================================
Thug
———————————————————–
“Yes. His house. I dunno where you find him now. Maybe he run to Cran’s house. Maybe he just run away. I dunno.” He keeps looking from Vogh questioning him to Talin nervously and back again.

===========================================================
Brother Fabitor
———————————————————–
The priest was growing angrier as the questioning continued, then red faced he exploded at the man.

“Why did you kill her?!?! Who would want such a sweet girl dead?! WHY?!?!”

Fabitor was yelling and stepped toward the man like he was going to slug him. The priest even had both fists balled up at his sides like he was going to do it. Then he released his hands by force of will and breathed deeply to calm himself. His face still showed rage and that he wanted an answer.

===========================================================
Thug
———————————————————–
“I dunno! I dunno!!! He gave us gold to do work. We took it! That all!”

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
The man was very afraid and was answering the questions well enough she thought, but she might want to ask him more questions later.

What is your name?  Just so that you know we are going to be turning you in to the authorities, but not just yet.  We are going to check out this Cran fellow and see what he says.  You of course will remain here and tied up.

===========================================================
Vagger
———————————————————–
His eyes shot up at both Vogh’s statements.

“Name’s Vagger. You don’t want to go attackin’ Cran. That big ol’ orc will kill ya dead.”

With another look from Talin and Vogh the finally told them Toridan Cran lived in a small one-story wooden house on Nar Street in southern Midtown.

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
Orc you say?  Good to know.  when you were to meet him was he to give or do anything?  oh and what makes you think he wouldn’t just kill you like you were going to do with the Pale Dogs?

Who do you work for, normally, Vagger?

Then thinking about the orc again she adds,Who does Cain work for?  What makes him so scary?

===========================================================
Vagger
———————————————————–
Orc you say?  Good to know.  when you were to meet him was he to give or do anything?  oh and what makes you think he wouldn’t just kill you like you were going to do with the Pale Dogs?

“He just say to meet him when it done and we get the gold. Gave us half.”

The tough stopped at Vogh’s question about Cran just killing them. He started to respond Cran couldn’t kill them and looked down at his cleanly sliced armor.

“I dunno… Cran don’t work for no one. He’s a boss.”

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
You didn’t say who you normally work for.   Vogh asked again.

===========================================================
Vagger
———————————————————–
“I work for whoever got the most gold… Sellsword.”

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
Okay I think that is enough for me.  Brother?  Can we keep him here for a day?  We need to see what we can find out before jumping into things.  Vogh asked Brother Fabitor.

===========================================================
Brother Fabitor
———————————————————–
“Yes. Yes. Um. Yes you may. We don’t have a jail or anything, um, you know, like that… But this door does lock, if I can find the key. Uhhh… Wait here and I’ll search my office.”

He left the room and returned after Vogh and Talin had securely tied the man to a sturdy wooden chair.

They three exited and Fabitor locked the door with a *clank*.

“Miss Vogh, I noticed, er, your leg was bleeding. Would you care to have me heal that? I won’t even count it against your credit.” He gestured to her leg which still sported a bit of arrow shaft and finished his offer with a smile and a wink.

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
Having forgotten about the wound she had from the arrow with all the excitement, Vogh looks down at it and smiles.  Ah yes, I had almost forgotten about that.  Now that you mention it, it does hurt a bit.  I certainly could use a bit of our healing Brother Fabitor.  Also would you mind if I held onto the key?  There is no knowing what tricks the man has and I would feel more comfortable having it.  We will be back in the morning to make sure he gets some food though.

===========================================================
Brother Fabitor
———————————————————–
“Um. Er. I don’t… that is to say… I’m not sure… Well. Okay. So long as you return tomorrow. We are not a jail but a church! Sigh. But we can, um, do what needs to be. I suppose. You know?”

He shook his head as if clearing the thought then focuses on Voghs wound.

With a prayer healing energy moved through Voghs leg and at the same time Fabitor slowly extracted the arrow. The surging energies repaired the damage as he extracted and she only felt a slight pang.

“Well there you have it. Please take the arrow with you. Now I’m returning to bed. You know. Long day ahead tomorrow.”

He ushered then out of the door then shut and locked it behind them.
